Abstract
Picture Books For All exhibition showcased W. S. Cowell Ltd, the pioneering Ipswich printer who helped to develop picture book printing in Britain, working with leading illustrators, artists and publishers from the 1930s through to the 1980s.
Co-curated with Rob Ramsden, Dr Vassiliki Tzomaka, and in collaboration with Suffolk Archives, Picture Books For All was exhibited at Ipswich’s The Hold from 20 October 2022–8 January 2023.

Additional Information: | Picture Books For All was researched and curated by Nigel Ball, Rob Ramsden and Vassiliki Tzomaka, with the art direction for the exhibition identity designed by Nigel Ball and Rob Ramsden. All panel text was contributed by Nigel Ball and Rob Ramsden, with support from Vassiliki Tzomaka. The curators were instrumental in selecting material from Suffolk Archives to be exhibited, selecting collectors to hire exhibitor content, and interviewing key experts from the field of picture books, mid-century design and contemporary aspects of children's picture books. Many exhibits in the exhibition were on display for the first time. The exhibition had a foot-fall of over 1000 people during its duration. |
