Abstract

Assessment in field education is fundamental to ensuring capable social work graduates. Assessment is often identified as a challenge for field educators, particularly when students are struggling with placement learning. This chapter examines the literature and research about student assessment. The purpose of assessment, the evidence used in assessment and the different factors impacting on the assessment process are discussed. Concern is highlighted about the quality of assessment with some students passing placement who may not be appropriate practitioners in the future.
