Abstract

The submission is timely, as the Select Committee reviews the impact of the Modern Slavery Act, which was initially heralded as groundbreaking. Dr. Andell’s evidence evaluates how the Act’s provisions have been implemented and scrutinises its effectiveness in fulfilling its core duties—particularly in relation to the criminal exploitation of young people involved in county lines drug dealing. Dr.Andell focuses on the often-overlooked intersections between modern slavery, human trafficking, and organised crime, advocating for a stronger legislative framework to prevent the exploitation of vulnerable individuals, particularly children and migrants.
