Abstract

The patient consented to radiotherapy treatment with concurrent weekly cisplatin and was prescribed 65 Gray (Gy) in 30 fractions (#) and six cycles of concomitant cisplatin. pi 6 (cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A) positive tonsil SCC is associated with a good prognosis, being associated with improved two year failure-free and disease-free survival compared to pi 6-negative and is now used as a prognostic tool6,7. Palliative treatment and care is concerned with treating symptoms caused by the disease, and maintaining the patient's quality of life33. [...]the benefit of treatment options versus any potential side effects, along with existing co-morbidities and patient status must be considered when making treatment decisions.
